The maceration processed by simply placing the powdered plant samples in container
or flask covered by stopper and in contact with the solvent to allow solvent penetration into
plant’s cellular structure to dissolve and release the soluble metabolites. This extraction
technique could be improved its efficiency by occasionally shaking the container or stirring
through mechanical force to allow homogenization resulting to enhance mass transfer of
soluble metabolites (Figure 1). Maceration is a discontinuous method, and the solvent must
be renewed until the plant material is exhausted. This extraction technique also requires
occasional filtration steps that could result loss of solvent, metabolites and/or plant samples
