The hypothesis that plant growth may be an important modifier of the accumulation or dilution of organic air pollutants in plants was tested using data of Böhme et al. (1999). For seven out of ten species data on RGRs were extracted from Grime & Hunt (1975) and Hunt & Cornelissen (1997) and related to the concentrations of ten different PAHs. While there was no relationship between RGR and concentrations of semi-volatile four-ring-PAH, concentrations
of high molecular PAH were higher in fastgrowing species (Fig. 3).
