Subtractive mixing does a poor job in certain areas of the spectrum, but this can be improved by adding more ink colours. The Hexachrome system uses slightly adjusted cyan, magenta, and yellow plus a vivid orange and green to give an excellent quality of colour reproduction, with subtle variations and greater range. Many everyday inkjet printers use alternative systems of six or more inks to improve colour quality. Using more than four colours on press, however, demands some fundamental changes to reprographic methods.
