Masculinity is also defined in
relational terms, as that which is not feminine
[14,15]. In addition, within any given society
there can exist a hierarchy of masculinities
with an idealized version being dominant or
hegemonic [15]. In Western culture, contemporary
hegemonic masculinity is associated
with being White, heterosexual and middleclass,
and possessing stereotypical masculine
traits of assertiveness, dominance, control,
physical strength and emotional restraint
