Comparative studies in Languages & Literature consists of 3 main courses : 'Japanese and Asian Language and Culture' , 'European and American Language and Culture' , and 'Comparative Culture' .
It aims to develop practical linguistic capability and thereby impart and increase knowledge of cultural phenomena expressed in language.
The curriculum is not restricted to only the conventional literary and linguistic domain, but attempts to cover various differences in cultural attitudes and opinions.
In other words, students specializing in one particular culture on country are encourage to broaden their outlook by attending other related on supplementary courses.
By doing so, in the study of language and culture the 'Department of Languages and Literature' hopes to increase the depth of knowledge acquired by simultaneously increasing its breadth. That is, the strength and survival of a tall building depends on a broad and sound foundation : ie. it avoids the danger of overspeciality.
