About 700 years ago a dam was constructed across a small valley 2km. southwest of the old wall of Sukhothai City.
The dam was called "Sridpongs Dam" and the name was engraved in the stone inscription by King Ramkhamhaeng the great.
was used for water supply to the city.
Remains of the dam were found in 1421.
The dam has been rebuilt and heightened in its original location.
It has been renamed "Ram Kham Haeng the Great Reservoir".
