Hidalgo et al. (2006) described a carotenoid extraction based on
the AACC method 14–50 (American Association of Cereal Chemists
(AACC), 1990). After a 1 h extraction with water-saturated butanol,
levels of lutein, b-tocotrienol, and heneicosylresorcinol were
comparable to our simultaneous method. However, steryl ferulates
were poorly extracted by the method of Hidalgo et al. (2006)
(Table 2).
