for example, a load resistance. Such optimisation techniques work well for machines that either feed linear loads, or are supplied by sinusoidal voltages. However, when a generator feeds a diode rectifier, the performance of the generator is sub-optimal. Our design technique provides a five-phase generator design that is better optimised for use with diode rectifier circuits. In addition, the ratio of stator slots to rotor poles has been determined to better optimise the connection of a five-phase generator to a diode rectifier. Furthermore, adoption of our technology does not disrupt the design flow as the five-phase technology can simply be adopted during the design phase.
