The National Legislative Assembly on Thursday finalised its shortlist of five NLA representatives nominated to serve on the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDA).

The final vote was: Disatat Hotrakit, secretary-general of the Council of State, 175 votes; Kanjanarat Leeviroj, member of the Council of State former charter drafter, 167 votes; Preecha Watcharapai, former secretary-general of the Office of the Civil Service Commission, 149 votes; Wutthisak Lapcharoen, rector of Ramkhamhaeng University, 126 votes; and Gen Yodyuth Boonyathikarn, chairman of the NLA committee on agriculture and agricultural cooperatives, 100 votes.

Gen Yodyuth is a former classmate of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha int Class 12 of the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School.

There were 10 NLA members contesting the five positions available. Those who missed out are: Gen Somchet Boonthanom, former appointed senator, 85 votes; Thaweesak Sutakawathin, president of the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida) teachers council, 67 votes; Gen Niwat Sripen, chief of the Judge Advocate General’s Office, 26 votes; Phattarasak Vannasaeng, secretary-general of the Office of the Judiciary, 37 votes; and former judge Pramut Sutabutra, 24 votes.

Initially there were 11 candidates, but Chukiart Ratttanachaicharn, former secretary-general of the Council of state, opted out of the race on the grounds there were other representatives from the council standing for a seat on the CDA.
