Hongi is a traditional Maori greeting. Māori greet each other in a traditional way known as Hongi. It is done by pressing our nose and forehead to another person at an encounter. Hongi means sharing of breath and Maori believes that God gives them a breath. Maori often greet by Hongi when they feel friendly and safe and it shows sincerity of each other.
Currently, it can be seen only in important ceremony or in Maori’s important tradition and the greeting in daily life is shake hands as European.
