Other dead larvae were held at 23°C for 7 days to allow time for the
expression of bacterial, fungal, or nematode parasitism.
Bacterial and fungal identification was confirmed
by the examination of diagnostic structures microscopically.
In trial 3, nematodes from 31 randomly selected
dead larvae from control plots were identified in the
laboratory. Ant predators were observed on the soil
surface while placing and recovering cages, particularly
where the soil had been disturbed previously.
