The GCI 2013-2014 report also reveals the poor performance of Thailand in some fundamental areas related to the national workforce. Thailand scored particularly poorly in the areas of ‘health and primary education’ (ranked 81 out of 148 countries). The enrollment in and the quality of higher education remain abnormally low .These scores imply a considerable need for improvement in workforce development via vigorous educational reforms. It is anticipated that the electronics industry in Thailand, for example, with exports of $US 49 billion and 200,000 employees, could shrink 50 percent in 3 years without educational and skill improvements
