The practical use of P. oligandrum for biological control of black
scurf in potato was evaluated in field experiments in this study.
Biological control of black scurf using other fungi has been
previously reported. Seed tuber treatment with fermenter biomass
preparations of Trichoderma viride Pers. or Gliocladium virens
(Miller et al.) was reported to reduce disease incidence in the field
(Beagle-Ristaino and Papavizas, 1985). Seed tuber treatment with
Verticillium biguttatum Gams was also effective for black scurf
disease control in the field (Jager et al., 1991). In-furrow applications
with binucleate Rhizoctonia isolates and T. harzianum resulted
in reduction of disease severity in the field
