Although the evaluation trials were in three regions, the purpose of this study was to establish the content of the provitamin A carotenoids across different cultivars and when the fruit was unripe and ripe. Therefore due to ease in sample transportation a batch of samples for nutrient analysis used in this study were obtained from the Butembo field site in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo and this included the cultivars that were able to thrive well at this site. These include all those listed in Table 1 except ‘Chibulangombe’ and ‘Senorita’ that did not establish well. Mature ‘Lai’ and ‘Pelipita’ was also unavailable at the time of sample collection. ‘Papat Wung’ produced seeds and was removed from the trials.
