The concentration of glycerol was measured during the fermentation process.Glycerol concentration in the media was decreased,regardless of the initial concentrations throughout the fermentation period.A further increase in the glycerol concentration from 4% to 8%(w/v)resulted in higher glycerol consumption. However,MK-7 biosynthesis showed no significant
change when using higher concentration of glycerol.This clearly
shows that higher concentrations of glycerol was not utilized
through a shikimate pathway(Bentley etal.,1990) to further enhance the menaquinone biosynthesis.
