The present paper reports novel data on the phenolic composition and antioxidant activity of grape juices and wine. The findings support the potential health properties of red grape juices. Both red and white grape juices evidenced an elevated concentration of total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity, which were higher in the red grape juices, largely attributable to their elevated anthocyanin and flavonoid content. The high phenolic content and antioxidant activity of red grape juices make them a preferable option that other widely consumed juices, including orange, apple and pineapple juices. The lack of alcohol in red grape juices makes them a preferable option to red wines. Hence, despite its high sugar content, red grape juice consumption may be recommendable as part of a balanced diet.
