3.1 CLEANING
Keeping the machine clean is a very important consideration. Dust, humidity and other
contaminants may accelerate deterioration of the tooling and electrical components, which may
lead to intermittent failures. The purpose of cleaning is to free the machine and its mechanisms
of all forms of debris as well as all traces of contaminants or lubricants. A thorough cleaning of
the machine is recommended before starting production, using preferably mild cleaning
products.
• It is particularly important to clean the machine thoroughly, especially when
products are accidentally spilled. Depending on the nature of the product spilled,
contaminated mechanisms should be washed;
• If products are accidentally spilled on the machine, or if you have to use solvents,
which present inhalation as well as fire and explosion hazards, apply the
company’s policies on the use of hazardous materials before starting any work.
Make sure that the building is properly ventilated, and wear suitable personal
protective equipment;
• If the products to be removed present personal or environmental hazards, follow
the company cleaning procedures applicable in such cases;
• If the spilled substances (glue, for example) cannot be removed by the abovementioned
methods, request the intervention of the mechanical and electrical
maintenance personnel, as it might be necessary to remove certain parts in order
to clean them properly;
• Some parts are made of paint steel or have special lined or polymer bushing.
They should not be clean with caustic solution. They will oxidize and deteriorate.
Use all-purpose soft cleaner.
