I'm a bit surprised there isn't already a topic for this series yet. Well I read the series a few weeks back and I thought I'd open a thread for it as I quite enjoyed the series. First off the art has no business being as good as it is for this type of series, haha. Seriously, the art is great, and it gives this very serious/realistic tone, but that just adds to how ridiculous it actually is. The basic premise is that these five boys attend and all girls school and after a certain incident they are then sent to what is basically an actual prison within the school instead of being expelled. So it is a pretty harsh punishment, but it actually allows the best aspect of the series to shine. How they come up with plans to escape/avoid the USC and the bond between the boys going through their ordeal is just written so well. At its base it feels like an actual prison movie or TV series, but a thousand times more ridiculous because of all the comedy, fanservice (mostly by the Vice Pres), and just bizarre situations they constantly find themselves in.
What really surprises me is the main character is one of the best things about the series, especially as I don't tend to like the main character a lot of the time. Kiyoshi is just such a well rounded character. He isn't without flaws, which is nice, but he is quite badass and turns out to be a truly great friend. Seeing his character grows and him becoming a great leader was just nice to see. Also the insane situations he gets into with Hana are just so funny. The other standout is Gakuto. How he comes up with all those plans and the lengths he is willing to go to see those plans fulfilled are hilarious. The two of them in that first big arc were so entertaining. Though the most unexpected surprise about the series, and probably the funniest part of the series to me, was the Chairman. When you see him you think he is a normal, serious School Chairman, but the absolutely hilarious situations he constantly finds himself in with the President all because of his love as asses are amazing to see. They are just great.
I do have a few problems with the series. Andre and Shingo I still don't like a whole lot, but I understand their role within the series. I don't like them, but they aren't bad characters exactly. The other weak link in the series in the beginning was Chiyo. For a series with such strong personalities she came across as just so plain. As the main love interest she was kind of boring, and I wouldn't have minded seeing more of a harem aspect with the main character, but luckily after a few reveals and her actions in the current arc she does become more interesting. Still overall I quite enjoyed this series and I hope it continues to get translated at a pretty good pace. I know the current scans are about 40-ish chapters behind, so they do have a while until the catch up.
