This important trend in regulations resulted in the
development of research dedicated to animal welfare,
especially on standard poultry production, which is
considered by most people as resulting in a very poor
welfare. Because of the importance, for welfare-related
traits, of environmental conditions, these studies involve
translating results obtained in research laboratories,
using very peculiar conditions, to commercial
conditions. Links between genetics and adaptation are
also considered, in particular to investigate new criteria
of selection that might improve (or at least maintain)
welfare.
