The proper way to identify these transactional changeovers is to watch for the conclusion of one task, e.g., an employee getting up from his or her desk or workstation, picking up a pile of work and filing it, and finally returning to the desk with a new pile of work that is not the same subject as what was previously being completed. Another good way to identify these changeovers is to watch for when an employee exits from one software program (or a group of screens from a software package) and opens a new program (or new set of windows). When you see changeovers such as these, the correct way to capture this information is no different than in a manufacturing setting. (For additional information on this data point, refer back to changeover time in Chapter 8.)
