A comparable study in the Philippines showed a negative impact of
marine ornamental fishing on the density and size of both anemones
and the anemonefish Amphiprion clarkii. A significant reduction in the density of aquarium fish at collection
sites was also observed in Hawaii (Tissot and Hallacher, 2003). In
addition, global phenomena such as bleaching events have a
negative impact on the fitness of anemones due to the loss of its
symbiotic zooxanthellae. In turn, this negatively affects anemonefish
densities, as observed in the Great Barrier Reef
