LEE F. SCHRADER (1933-)
Dr. Schrader joined the faculty as associate professor May 22, 1966. His activities included extension, research, and teaching. He achieved national recognition for his work on the economics of the poultry and egg industries and was a regular contributor to the Department outlook programs. His primary research interest was in pricing and coordination of commodity systems, including the role of agricultural cooperatives. He taught marketing, price analysis, cooperative management, and econometrics. He served as associate head of department and extension coordinator 1989-1995.
Dr. Schrader received research awards from the American Farm Economics Association and Western Farm Economics Association in 1964, the Indiana State Poultry Association Golden Egg Award in 1982, the American Agricultural Economics Association Distinguished Policy Contribution Award in 1980 (with others), and the American Agricultural Economics Association Distinguished Extension Program - Group in 1993. He served as editor of the North Central Journal of Agricultural Economics 1985-87 and the Journal of Cooperatives 1995-97.
Dr. Schrader was visiting professor, Graduate School of Business Administration, Harvard University, 1972-73; Visiting Professor, University of Kiel, Germany; and Visiting Scholar, Agricultural Cooperative Service, USDA 1987-88. He served on several short term international assignments including South America, Africa, and Asia.
Dr. Schrader is a native of Illinois. He earned his B.S. in agriculture from the University of Illinois, M.S. in agricultural economics from Michigan State University, and Ph.D. in agricultural economics from University of California, Berkeley. Prior to coming to Purdue, he worked as an economic analyst and buyer for Armour and Company and Lever Brothers Company. Lee and his wife, Martha, raised 3 children, Amanda, Katherine, and Mark.
