ISO is the abbreviation for International Organization for Standardization,
head-quartered in Geneva. This is a world standards body, in which most countries are members.
ISO is engaged in formulating standard specifications in a variety of disciplines such as quality management, information technology, metrology, etc.
There is also another world body called International Electro-Technical Commission (IEC),which specializes in formulating standard specifications, pertaining to the electro-technical area, i.e.electrical and electronics engineering areas.
ISO has published many standards.
One of the most acclaimed standard worldwide is the ISO 9000 family of standard.
