In this study, a simple prototype microwave moisture
meter using a 2×2 microstrip patch array antenna was
introduced to reduce the size and volume of the instrument.
First, as a basic study, the attenuation and phase shift
variations of the microwave signal through a moist grain
sample were measured and analyzed with commercial horn
antennas and a vector network analyzer at 9.0 to 10.5 GHz.
Secondly, simple microwave instrumentation for moisture
measurement in grain samples with a pair of small microstrip
patch array antennas was prepared and its performance was
evaluated.
