Russia-based Geo Foods has imported its first batch of Peruvian quinoa grains to Russia, which will be distributed in different regions of the country.
Geo Foods was advised by the Peruvian Trade Office in Moscow (OCEX Moscow) throughout the process.
Imports are expected to average 20 tons a month, and are likely to increase in volume in a near future.
The quinoa amount imported by Geo Foods will be sold in 0.5 kg packages through main supermarket chains across the Russian Leningrad region, and visual promotional material depicting Peruvian Andes will be available in places of retail for customers to identify the origin of the product.
It should be noted the quinoa-growing area in Peru includes Puno, Arequipa, Cusco, Ayacucho and Huancavelica regions.
The development-related proposal is to have the product available all over the Russian Federation and show its great nutritional potential.
It is worth mentioning that Russian consumers are interested in the nutritional content of products and this is an opportunity for the Andean cereal –which complies with technical and sanitary quality standards– to gain a prominent position within such market.
