For instance, due to historical factors that have created societal inequities and/or limited access to educational resources, Aboriginal learners have lower graduation rates
and are less likely to be in age appropriate grades. As well, Aboriginal populations in Canada must deal with the complexity of cultural identity legislation and other
challenges that undermine their ability to negotiate systems of health care; this often leads to limited access to or exclusion from health and social programs. These are some of the factors that challenge the health literacy of Aboriginal people and may ultimately disrupt their ability to be equitable participants in decision making.
