Studies that examined perceptions about older workers in the hospitality industry reported both negative and positive associations with older workers: (1) negative associations with older workers are related to aging affects on memory and efficiency of reaction, (2) positive associations with older workers are related to good work attributes and their accumulated experiences which offsets their diminished physical and cognitive skills, and (3) negative associations with older workers performance related to specific job type (front-line/labor intensive) and/or type of industry (hospitality) (Iun and Huang, 2007). Even though Furunes and Mykletun (2008) posit that older workers in the hospitality industry are not properly trained in areas that warrant specific focus (technology, adaptability), they report that older managers view older workers in higher regard than younger work- ers.
