Chapter nine
The long war comes to an end
WHEN George Washington and his men heard that France was joining the war they started to celebrate. Cannon balls were shot into the sky as Washington rode up and down in front of his soldiers. ‘Long lives the king of France!’ they shouted. More cannons were fired. ‘Long live General Washington!’ the men cried, and they threw their hats up into the air. Washington and his army, like all Americans, were hopeful now of a quick end to the war.
