Collision between Seagate and Timor Stream
On March 10th 2012, at 0540 local time, Seagate and Timor Stream collided 24 nautical miles north of the Dominican Republic. It was a cloudy night with occasional showers, and winds around 10 knots. The bow of Timor Stream punctured the aft housing of Seagate, resulting in serious damages to both vessels, and causing minor pollution. Seagate is a 170 meter, British flagged bulk carrier and Timor Stream is a 150 meter, Liberian flagged refrigerated cargo ship. There were many causes by both vessels that contributed to the accident, all of which have been investigated and reported by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) of United Kingdom Merchant Shipping (MAIB, 2013).
