Unfortunately, many of our hypotheses are difficult to test empirically, given the lack of data on the demand for and supply of CSR. We propose that the government or management researchers working with government support systematically collect information on the social characteristics of products and CSR activity at the firm and industry level.5 This would enable researchers to test our hypotheses and also allow them to conduct an "hedonic" analysis (Griliches, 1990) of CSR to determine exactly
how much consumers and other stakeholders are willing to pay for CSR attributes.
