He got in his car. He drove away. He forgot to switch on his lights. Suddenly a policeman sitting in his police patrol car noticed him driving along the road at a speed greater than the speed limit allowed by the law. He chased the man. The chase lasted for three kilometers. The policeman wanted to make the man stop. He succeeded. The man pulled in. His car stopped at the side of the road.
“From the smell that I can smell on your breath as you breathe, it seems to me that you have been apparently been drinking, sir,” said the policeman quietly and politely, without being rude or shouting. “Please get out of the car and breathe into this.”
A balloon!” said the driver. “You are going to an event where there is music and food and games an – I hope – drink. You are taking a balloon, officer. You cannot blow it up. You want me to blow it up for you. Certainly, officer. I am on all occasions not only glad but happy and delighted to be of service to the police. Allow me.”
A faint little smile spread across the lips of the policeman’s mouth on his face.
