Copper-doped glass
This CuO-glass reveals strong UV–visible absorption bands related to the combined absorption of Bi3+ ions, trace Fe3+ ions and octahedrally coordinated Cu2+ ions.
Gamma irradiation produces no changes in the UV-near visible absorption due to the stability with the presence of high content of heavy Bi3+ ions.
The resolution of an induced visible band at 550 nm can be related to the induced positive oxygen–hole center and the decrease of the rest visible absorption can be related to the sharing of the divalent copper ions in the process of shielding towards irradiation.
