Carrot cake may well sound healthy, as they actually contain 400 grams of carrots – but they also contain a lot of butter, hazelnuts, eggs, sugar, flour and jam. Rüeblitorte (carrot cake), is especially popular in the German-speaking regions of Switzerland, and originally comes from the canton of Aargau, which is also nicknamed “Rüebliland” (“carrot country”), as carrots are grown there in large quantities. To reduce the calories, you can leave out the sugar icing and the decorative marzipan carrots, and use wholemeal flour.
