5. SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS
This study is one in a series of papers reporting the results of our investigation into the value of
Project Management. In this particular paper we show that there are some perceptions of
project management that are not confirmed by our actual data. For instance, the actual average
cost of PM. On the other hand, there are many suppositions that have been substantiated; e.g.
the IS industry is less mature than other fields such as construction. To be academically
credible, a professional field depends upon a set of first principles and body of knowledge that
is replicable. This study showed that we have a start in understanding and forming a theory of
project management, yet there are still many gaps in our knowledge base.
