Speaking to Variety in 2013, YouTube claimed to have thousands of channels earning six figures a year, though it doesn’t specify how many and what its total payouts to them are. For 2013, EMarketer predicted YouTube would net $1.96 billion of its gross revenue. Its net profits having grown faster than payouts to content providers and advertising partners for the previous three years. While the company doesn’t disclose how many employees it has but in 2011 The Wall Street Journal reported it was between 600 and 700, a far cry from the roughly 8,400 CBS Entertainment employees and more than 5,000 US employees at Time Inc.
