The observation of high peak SO2 concentrations between 10:00 a.m. and 14:00 p.m. however was not consistent with the occurrence of the observed health impact since reported first sensation of unusual smell and onset of symptoms generally occurred between 06:00 and 07:00 a.m. Nonetheless, the lag of several hours between first onset of symptoms and peak SO2 readings may not go against a relationship of symptoms to air pollution. It is quite possible that sulfur containing acids may have formed in early morning for droplets, and fallen to ground well before mixing conditions would have allowed high ground-level SO2 concentrations to occur. The power plant paid more than 8 million bahts to the people to compensate for the damages.
