With the rule of law being a crucial foundation of any society, it is belief of the Royal Thai government that the inauguration of the Bangkok Dialogue will further enhance Thailand’s constructive role in promoting the rule of law at national and international levels, particularly within the United Nations framework.
“Since the cycle of the Millennium Development Goals is coming to an end in 2015, it is an opportune time that the international community will review and re-adjust the new development goals in a more comprehensive manner.”
She said that investing in the rule of law, including in human rights education, will be an essential element in creating the culture of lawfulness and governance. “Such culture will by itself serve as a crime prevention measure for the Thai society in the long haul, thus contributing positively towards a more sustainable economic growth, justice reform and national security. With the coming of the ASEAN Community in 2015, the necessity to promote the rule of law will become ever more pronounced, and so will the need for more capacity-building.”
