MATERIALS AND METHODS
Preparation of FSBM by a 2-Stage Fermentation
The 2-stage fermentation procedures for producing FSBM [16] are briefly described as follows: initially, commercial SBM was steamed to sterilize it, followed by immediate cooling. Multistrain microorganisms, predominantly Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus niger, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, were then inoculated and the fermentation process proceeded under aerobic conditions by importing sterilized air by an air filter at the first stage of fermentation. The products were then transferred to the anaerobic fermentor, which contained Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus, and were fermented for a period of time as the second stage of fermentation. Finally, the resulting hydrates were dried and ground for commercial or experimental use. The nutrient composition and antinutritional factors of FSBM were compared with those of SBM
(Table 1).
