How can it be digitally set....it h

How can it be digitally set....it has no electrical connection of any kind to the printer. Samsung says to take it out dump it, clean it and reinstall. It is just a plastic container that fits under a little door that drops the used toner into it. My guess is the toner can not get to the container. The container wasn't full when the dump toner bin message started.
