Silicone Resin Binders
Aqueous silicone resin coatings such as silicone resin paints and plasters ideally combine the positive properties of mineral-like and
synthetic resin based coatings.
Essentially, silicone resins consist of an inorganic, quartz-like SiO2 framework with organic groups.
Due to their predominantly inorganic character, they provide excellent compatibility to mineral substrates as well as high water vapour
permeability.
This makes them perfectly suited for use in masonry coatings.
Thanks to their organic methyl (CH3) groups, they exhibit also effective protection from destructive water.
Pigments and mineral fillers are permanently embedded into the binder matrix by the silicone resin and are therefore effectively protected
from harmful environmental impacts.
For the formulation of aqueous silicone resin coatings, emulsions of methyl silicone resins are mainly used. In combination with polymer
emulsion they form the binder of the coating, while giving it its characteristic properties.
Silicone resin bounded coatings are particularly characterised by
♦ exceptional water repellence in combination with a high water vapour permeability
♦ good resistance to weathering and UV light
♦ a natural matt, microporous appearance
♦ outstanding longevity and thus economic efficiency
♦ simple and uncomplicated applicability on nearly all kinds of substrate
