Longitudinal studies on the performance
of extensive amalgam restorations have
confi rmed amalgam’s success as a direct,
plastic restorative material.14,15.However,
the fact that dental amalgam lacks intrinsic
adhesive potential would infer that it
would have little effect on ‘binding’ fractures
or restoring fracture resistance unto
teeth affected by CTS (without the need of
auxiliary retentive aids).
