In countries where care providers other than obstetricians
(especially midwives) are required to perform instrumental vaginal
deliveries, adequate training and supportive legislation should be in
place [16]. In the absence thereof, there should be a written document
enabling the care provider to intervene appropriately and definition
of the circumstances under which this can be done. The aim of
such documentation of policy is to enable providers to use their skills
without fear of criticism or sanction arising from questions about
professional scope of practice.
