Chest Physiotherapy. For the purpose of this study, CPT included percussion, coughing, and deep breathing. Percussion was defined as rhythmically striking the chest wall with a rubber percussor (Smiths Medical ASD, Inc).
The CPT was performed by registered nurses as a 3-minute treatment (1.5 minutes on each side of the lungs) according to established competency.
This treatment time is consistent with published treatment times, which range from 2 to 3 minutes.
