The national cancer screening program in Korea
recommends monthly breast self-examination for older
than 30, as well as a clinical breast examination andmammogram every 2 years for women older than 40
(National Cancer Center, 2009). The screening rate of the
recommended examination for each type of cancer in Korea
is 53.3%, and the screening rate for breast cancer is 55.2%,
which has increased every year. However, the screening
rate for breast cancer is low when compared to that of
other OECD countries, such as the USA (66.6%) and the
UK (73.8%) (Ministry of Health & Welfare, 2010).
