History Theme Lodging
As we mature, we are drawn to history in order to find out more about ourselves. We are able to read about our history, but who among us has not daydreamed of how things were in a specific period of time and wondered how we would have fared? A history-themed lodging facility such as Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia allows us to observe and ever participate in full-dress simulations of a small 17th-century settlement that was, for a short time, the state capital. People dress in period reproduction clothing, use the tools and implements of the time, and cook traditional recipes in iron pots over an open hearth. You can tour and, in some instances, stay in lodging facilities that are over 250 years old. The city of Williamsburg is a willing, cooperative partner in the Colonial Williamsburg concept, with 90 percent of the city’s lodging and restaurant facilities operating specifically to support Colonial Williamsburg tourism. Historical tours of Jamestown, Yorktown, and historic plantations are also offered, and when you get tired of history, Williamsburg boasts a large outlet mall and the Busch Gardens Theme Park.
