The extractions were performed for 4 h using 2 g freeze-dried carrot sample as feed material and the extracted oil was collected in side-armed glass tubes (wrapped with aluminum foil) held in a refrigerated circulating bath (Lauda, Model RMT-6, Brinkmann, Rexdale, ON) at −20 °C. After each extraction, collection tube was left in dark at room temperature for 30 min to remove any residual CO2. Then, the collection tube was washed several times with hexane to transfer the extracted oil into a pre-weighed glass vial containing a known amount of butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT) as an antioxidant. The hexane was then removed under gentle nitrogen flow. The extracted oil samples were weighed, flushed with nitrogen and stored at −18 °C in dark until analysis.
