A witness yesterday identified one of the four suspects held in connection with the killing of blogger Niladri Chattopadhyay Niloy, Bangladesh police said.
Police, however, refused to disclose the identities of the suspect and the witness.
“We cannot divulge the names of the suspect and the witness at this stage,” Muntasirul Islam, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told The Daily Star yesterday.
Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two alleged members of banned Islamist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team in connection with the blogger's murder in Dhaka on Thursday. The two -- Kausar Hossain Khan, 29, and Kamal Hossain Sardar, 29 -- were placed on a five-day remand.
Earlier on August 14, detectives arrested two others -- Saad al Nahiyan and Masud Rana -- also alleged members of Ansarullah Bangla, for suspected involvement in the murder.
All the four are also charge-sheeted accused in an attempted murder case for an attack on blogger Asif Mohiuddin.
Niloy, the 28-year-old Gonojagoron Mancha activist, was hacked to death in broad daylight by four unknown assailants inside his Goran flat in the capital on August 7. He was the fourth blogger to have been killed this year.
He was hacked 14 times in a style similar to the previous killings of bloggers and online activists in recent months, according to the autopsy report.
Niloy's wife Asha Moni and her sister were inside the flat at the time of the killing.
Asha filed a murder case against four unidentified assailants with Khilgaon Police Station on August 7.
