degradedto0.08,0.14,0.22,0.31and0.40mgkg−1, respectivelyin
21days.Amongmetabolites,sulfidewasfoundtobemainmetabolite
followedbysulfoneandamide.Desulfinylmetabolitewasnot
producedinanyofthesample.Nometabolitesweredetectedwhen
the soilwasfortified with fipronil@0.50mgkg−1. Noresidueswere
detectedat28daysaftertheapplicationofpesticidewhenthesoil
samplewasfortified with@0.50mgkg−1. Whenthesoilsamples
werefortified with fipronil@0.75,1.00and1.25mgkg−1, residues
werenotdetected35daysaftertheapplicationofpesticide.But,when
the soilsamplewasfortified with fipronil @1.50mgkg−1, residuesof
fipronilpersistedupto35days.Butnoresiduesweredetected42days
aftertheapplicationoftheinsecticides.Theseresultsshowthatthe
bacterium B. thuringiensis has agreatroleinthebioremediationof
fipronilcontaminatedsoils(Fig. 2).Thesestudiesclearlydemonstrated
the roleofthesemicrobesasthepersistenceof fipronilwasfoundto
be verylessascomparedtounamendedsoilswhere fipronilwas
found topersistformorethan56days(Fig. 2).
Thestudiesareinagreementwiththoseof Zhuetal.,2004 who
hasalsoreportedfasterdegradationof fipronilbysoilmicrobes.
Thedegradationof fipronilinnon-sterileclayloamsoilwasmainly
