The friction loss for slurry flow through pipes can be estimated by Durand’s equation [7] with
reasonable accuracy. Durand, based on his data (pipe diameter varying from 0.02 m to 0.6 m, particle sizes
from 0.0001 m to 0.025 m and pipe velocity from 0.6 m/s to 6 m/s) proposed the following equation for
the prediction of head loss per unit pipe length in heterogeneous solid-liquid flow:
