HPLC analysis was carried out for sugars using an amino column (25 cm 9 4.6 mm id), Supelco, USA, with a refractive index detector. A solvent system consisting of acetonitrile/water (80:20 v/v) was used as mobile phase.
The mobile phase was pumped with a LC-10A pump at a flow rate of 1 ml/min.
Standard sugars used were xylose, arabinose, fructose, glucose, galactose and sucrose
